a lifelong student themselves, lee nourishes a private flute studio in brooklyn and online, where students explore various genres and improvisation to seek joy and levity in their musical journey. students are encouraged to take both solo and group lessons, to build community and to share in the magic of playing together and supporting one another. a studio dinner and recital are held annually to celebrate students’ accomplishments with each other and their loved ones.
informed by three generations of lineage to new york city and in strong belief that students are some of life’s best teachers, lee has taught the flute and general music as a whole person offering to students at public, private, and charter schools in brooklyn, ithaca, new orleans, the south bronx, and queens, as well as at assisted living facilities and day programs supporting the wellbeing of individuals with developmental disabilities.
in research and pedagogy practice, lee has spoken on and contributed to an archival of hip-hop flute samples, with fellow flutists ashley “flutebae” crawford and brittany trotter, presented at the midwest clinic, the national flute association, and the umoja flute institute. lee has a music performance degree from ithaca college, with a strong music education focus and study in professional development from the juilliard school. they attribute their development on the flute to study with wendy herbener mehne, bärli nugent, jessica raposo, and liz skaleski, as well as decades of diligent listening and transcribing.
